Welcome, Bienvenu and Bow-Wow to The Fine Canine!
The Fine Canine is a dog training company serving the Chicago, Illinois metropolitan area since 1999 that wishes to successfully create trust-bonded relationships between dogs and their owners for both recreational and competition purposes. We provide dog training, boarding, and daycare services to individuals and to dog talent agencies, including puppy training, dog obedience training, dog boarding and training, dog therapy training, dog agility training, canine good citizen training, and dog behavior counseling, based on positive methods of instruction that can help create fine canine companions for life.
The Fine Canine also has a sincere interest in promoting educated homes for shelter and rescue dogs and puppies as well as canines with special needs. If you are thinking of adopting a shelter dog and want to know if it's right for you, please give us a call and we'll be happy to advise you on your situation.
Obedience training focuses on teaching a dog to respond reliably to whatever command its handler gives. We offer three levels of obedience instruction: Family Dog class for puppies and dogs needing basic obedience training, Super Dog class for puppies and dogs needing a greater challenge and more advanced obedience training, and Canine Good Citizen class for puppies and dogs that are ready to be AKC certified as obedient canine citizens.
Therapy Dog Training
A therapy dog is a dog trained to provide affection and comfort to people in hospitals, retirement homes, nursing homes, schools, hospices, disaster areas, and to people with learning difficulties. Our therapy dog training program includes official certification by Delta Society Pet Partners, a national leader in promoting positive human-animal therapy, activities and education for over forty years.
Rally obedience (also known as Rally or Rally-O) is a dog sport based on obedience. Unlike traditional obedience, competitors proceed around a course of designated stations with the dog in heel position. The course consists of ten to twenty signs that instruct competitors on what to do. Handlers are allowed to encourage their dogs during the course. Rally obedience is a fun and exciting activity for dogs and their handlers.
Our boarding school training program is a highly intensive and effective 10 day overnight training camp for dogs. We focus on developing traditional obedience skills but can also tailor the training to zero in on particular problem behaviors you may be having or specific behaviors and skills you want to us to instill. Dogs enrolling in boarding school must be up to date on all of their vaccines prior to enrollment.
Our canine clubhouse daycare academy is intended to provide extra stimulation and incremental training on dogs that are enrolled in daycare. We work on developing traditional obedience skills daily (or as often as your dogs are enrolled) and provide weekly assesments of each dog's progress. Dogs enrolling in our canine clubhouse daycare academy must be up to date on all of their vaccines prior to enrollment.
If your dog is exhibiting unwanted behaviors and is in need of behavior modification, we can assist you. We offer private counseling sessions and consultations with you and your dog to understand and diagnose the problems you're having, recommend solutions, and teach you how to incorporate them to achieve results. Typically, counseling sessions run for about 1 hour but our goal is to assist you as quickly as we can.
Is Dog Training and Puppy Training for Me?
Any dog owner who wishes to improve or enhance their relationship with their canine companion is a candidate for our training programs. We can help you understand and modify unwanted behaviors in your dog, instruct you on the proper techniques to having a well trained dog, lay a strong foundation for you and your new puppy, and even teach you the handling skills necessary to successfully compete in dog agility trials with your canine. We also offer a dog boarding and training program for dog owners who want the peace of mind of having their pets trained by experienced trainers, a canine good citizen training and CGC certification program for dog owners who wish to certify their pet's training achievements, and a dog therapy training program for pet owners who wish to get involved in animal-assisted therapy.
And yes, you can teach an old dog new tricks!
