Canine Good Citizen Training and Certification | view schedule

AKC Canine Good Citizen Certification This six week session taught by an A.K.C. canine good citizen evaluator teaches your dog to be a respected member in its community by training it to have good manners in your home, in public places, and in areas where there may be other dogs. A practice certification test is included in the curriculum and the course ends with a friendly and informal test. Upon successful completion of this test, your dog will earn its official A.K.C. Canine Good Citizen Certificate and will be automatically recorded in the A.K.C.'s Canine Good Citizen Archive. Your dog's photo will also be added to our C.G.C. Hall of Fame web page.

Demonstrating confidence and control, your dog will be taught to:

Accept a friendly stranger
Sit politely for petting
Appearance and ability to be groomed
Walk on a loose leash
Walk through a crowd politely
Sit and down on command/staying in place
Come when called
React to another dog politely
React to distractions with confidence
Demonstrate confidence when separated from his owner for 3 minutes

What is the Canine Good Citizen Test?

The American Kennel Club's Canine Good Citizen Program is a friendly, non-competitive, and casual evaluation that rewards pet dogs that act mannerly at home and in the community. All dogs that pass the C.G.C. test receive an official certificate from the American Kennel Club and are automatically recorded in the A.K.C.'s Canine Good Citizen Archive. All tests are performed on leash. Owners may talk to their dogs throughout the test.

Who Can Participate in This Program?

EVERY dog is welcome - pedigreed champions and the pooch next door! All dogs, including both purebred and mixed breed dogs, can participate in the C.G.C. program. There is no age limit. We believe a dog can never be too old to become a good citizen.

Participating in this program helps promote responsible dog ownership!
